The Team

Highland Wildcat is a community company established in September 2005 to promote leisure and recreation in Sutherland for the benefit of public health and the rural economy. Its first project has been the development of 18km of mountain bike trails adjacent to Golspie on land kindly leased by Sutherland Estates. Planning is continuing for the development of further phases and facilities as described in the following pages. The first priority is the construction of a large skills area near Big Burn to allow development of riding techniques and the holding of 4x events. This will link to a future cross-country route via Dunrobin Wood to accommodate a wide range of users.

Dramatic backdrop and lone cyclist

Highland Wildcat is promoting the idea of an East Sutherland Regional Park to bring together all the natural attractions and visitor interests in the area. When in place, an interactive website will allow visitors from far afield to create an itinerary from easily accessible information and book accommodation as required. See Highland Birch Woods for further information.

The team have organised an annual event called “The Raid”. In 2007, this was a two day event to test all round riding ability. In 2008 we held the “Dawn Raid”, a 12 hour enduro event through the night on the longest day (only 2-3 hours of darkness in reality!). For 2009 we are still planning……. Watch this space or see Sutherland Raid.
