HIGHLAND WILDCAT TRAILS, GOLSPIE

Expecting to become one of the best mountain biking destinations in the UK, the first £0.5 million phase of Highland Wildcat Trails in Golspie was officially opened in November 2006 by Rhona Brankin, Forestry Minister in the Scottish Executive.

Located in a superb coastal location adjacent to the East Sutherland village of Golspie, within an hour's travelling time from Inverness via the A9, the trails have been designed and constructed to the highest standards

View toward monument

Featuring the longest descent in the UK from the summit of Ben Bhraggie (1300' to sea-level) - and the longest technical singletrack climb, this is "a must do" on the Highland scene. The trails have been designed with everyone in mind and are "stacked" such that the more difficult routes can only be reached by cycling up through the easier sections.

The blue family/novice trails pass through mixed woodland and attractive low level scenery while the more technical red & black graded trails are at higher elevation in conifer forest and open hill. Both the natural stone slab and the topography have been used to best advantage to give users an exhilarating and memorable experience. The majority is singletrack and provides 1.5 - 2 hours riding (14km) on the more difficult routes or an hour's fun on the easier "blue" route (7km).

Landscape view

The monument to the 1st Duke of Sutherland stands near the start of the black descent and provides a unique landmark for visitors to the area. Nearby is Dunrobin Castle and gardens together with many other attractions that would allow a very enjoyable long weekend to be had by all the family.
